Gareth Bale back at Tottenham would be fantastic- Harry Redknapp
Gareth Bale has been linked with a return to Tottenham amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Real Madrid, and Harry Redknapp says a Premier League homecoming would be “fantastic”.
With the Wales international having endured another injury-hit campaign in Spain, leading to him being benched by Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, talk of a summer transfer is growing in intensity.
Bale’s representatives have done their best to quash the rumours, but reports of interest from the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich refuse to go away.
Spurs have also been mooted as a possible landing spot for a man who left north London in a €100 million deal back in 2013, with a former boss at White Hart Lane eager to see a deal done if possible.
Redknapp told talkSPORT: “Gareth would be a great signing for Tottenham, it would be fantastic.
“He’s an amazing player. He can play so many positions and in so many systems, there are so many strings to his bow, he’s such a fantastic talent.
“Going back to Tottenham – if he comes back [to the Premier League] he would only go to a top-six club, but it would be nice to see him go back to Spurs.”
Redknapp believes a second spell on British shores is more likely than a switch to Germany if Bale is to be on the move this summer, despite the 28-year-old having ruled nothing out ahead of Real’s Champions League clash with Bayern on Wednesday.
The ex-Spurs manager added: “I think he’ll come home, he’s a homeboy.
“I remember giving him four or five days off at Tottenham, we didn’t have a game for two weeks or something, and he went back to Wales to see his mum, he didn’t go abroad or anywhere exotic.
“He’s quite a Steady Eddie, I think he’d like to be back at home.”
Bale’s five seasons in Madrid have delivered over 180 appearances, 81 goals, a La Liga title and three Champions League crowns, but he has started to slip out of favour and generated more transfer talk with each passing window.
